Dale H. Besterfield, Ph.D.

Dale and Helen Besterfield moved to Carbondale in 1962, when Dale took a teaching position in the College of Engineering at SIU. The Besterfields went on to earn several degrees from SIU Carbondale between them and Dale received five outstanding teacher awards and was the department chair of Technology. He also developed off-campus programs at military bases, as well as a new graduate program. Dr. Besterfield was a recognized authority in quality control, who wrote many technical publications and authored three textbooks. Helen served as an academic advisor at SIU for 27 years.
