Maryon King with the support of various alumni and friends established the scholarship. While in Maine, Jim met and married the love of his life, Maryon (nee Frederick). Together they owned and operated an H&R Block tax business, earned their MBA degrees in 1981, and started a family before heading westward to pursue their doctorate degrees at Indiana University. After completing his doctorate in 1987, Jim accepted a faculty position in the School of Accountancy at Southern Illinois University.
