The alumni of the Beta Delta Chapter of Theta Xi wanted to establish scholarship in memoriam of past members beginning with Jim Berg, who passed away January 2004. According to the Theta Xi Fraternity Beta Delta Chapter website, "". . . a group of SIU Theta Xi alumni felt that we needed an organized way for alumni to stay in touch with their brothers and have a way to help the active chapter."" Their scholarship is possible because of the generous donations of the alumni of the Beta Delta Chapter.
