Mr. Thomas F. Catania

Madeleine Smith’s career at SIU spanned 42 years. She came to SIU in 1929 along with 24 other new faculty members increasing the size of the faculty to 125. She began her career as a piano teacher before becoming a faculty member with the Foreign Languages and Literature Department. In 1946, she was appointed Assistant Professor and retired in 1971 as an Associate Professor, Emeritus for the College of Liberal Arts, Foreign Languages and Literatures.
