Mr. Warren Waltrip

The Waltrip Memorial Physician Assistant Scholarship was established to honor and memorialize Mary Waltrip. Mary Waltrip was an elementary school teacher in northern lllinois and the mother of Laurie Dunn, one of the founders ofthe SIUC Physician Assistant (PA) Program. Mrs. Waltrip was dedicated to helping others see their potential, empowering them to strive for their goals, and encouraging them along the journey. Mrs. Waltrip believed that professionals should have a strong work ethic, good communication skills and a keen sense of justice. She encouraged diversity, felt every person had value, and was often a supporter of the underdog. She believed in education and encouraged her students to attend institutions of higher learning. Mrs. Waltrip was a firm believer in the physician assistant profession and was proud of the SIU Carbondale PA Program.
