Mrs. Haline M. Carlton
The W.G. McCracken Scholarship was established by his daughter, Haline Carlton, in his honor. W.G. McCracken was employed as the Superintendent of Grounds and Buildings at SIU Carbondale from 1933-1939. Landscaping on campus during those years was under his supervision with work being performed by students who were paid through a federally funded program set up specifically to assist youth in attaining higher education. Mr. McCracken loved working with young people; and, being a strong advocate for education, reveled in spending his days at the University.
