Mrs. Han Lin Chen and the late Dr. Juh Wah Chen

The Juh Wah and Han Lin Chen Scholarship for Engineering was established to assist students financially to attend Southern Illinois University Carbondale and to explore the opportunities available to women to study Engineering. Han Lin Chen is an Emeritus member of the faculty of the College of Engineering and Dr. Juh Wah Chen is a former Dean of the College of Engineering.

Mrs. Han Lin Chen joined the faculty of the College of Engineering as a part-time instructor in 1967. She was promoted to the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in 1988. She was the first female faculty to achieve tenure in the College and has been recognized for her excellent teaching by her students and colleagues and alumni have expressed their appreciation to her during their return visits to campus. Mrs. Chen has a special interest in women in engineering and served as an advisor to SIU’s chapter of the Society of Women in Engineering for several years. She has continually encouraged female students to pursue engineering as a profession. Mrs. Chen retired in 1990.
