Ms. Carolyn Reinbold
The Carolyn & Mary Eva Reinbold Scholarship was established to honor Carolyn and her mother, Mary Eva. Carolyn grew up in Herrin, IL, and attended Southern Illinois University on a music scholarship. She graduated from SIU with honors in 1950 and joined the U.S. Army to study physical therapy. While in physical therapy school, she also took flying lessons and got her private pilot’s license. She became a registered physical therapist in 1952. Ms. Reinbold spent two years in the U.S. Army and 20 years in the U.S. Air Force as a physical therapist (except for two years when she was a member of the U.S. Air Force Pistol Team; the only woman ever assigned to that team). She retired from the military on July 1, 1972, as a Lieutenant Colonel. Carolyn was also a nature lover and an avid geneologist. Her autobiography, Life is What You Make It, is available at SIU Carbondale’s Morris Library.
