Ms. Marita A. Smith

Marita A. Smith, a 1975 graduate of the College of Liberal Arts at Southern Illinois University Carbondale, wished to develop a fund to assist future generations of SIU students. Marita’s sentiments follow: I am the first member of my family to obtain a Bachelors degree, but not the first to attend SIU. My father, Arthur L. Smith, was a charter graduate of the 1957 School of Advanced Cosmetology (Division of Technical and Adult Education) at SIU. He returned to teach in that program from 1965 to 1978.
