Rollin M. Perkins, MD
To be truly successful in higher education one must be proficient in Research, Training and Service. Dr. Perkins is a true leader in the field of Sports Medicine. He has been published in several well-respected journals including the Physician and Sports Medicine; the Journal of Applied Physiology; and the European Journal of Clinical Pharmacology. His book, Team Doc was published in 1996. It highlights his experience as a team doctor.
Dr. Perkins was raised in Iowa, however, he spent most of his career serving Southern Illinois University as a physician at the Student Health Center. In addition to his duties at the Health Center, Dr. Perkins was on the sidelines as the Team Physician for Intercollegiate Athletics for over 25 years. During this time, Dr. Perkins spent decades taking care of thousands of students both on and off the field.
Dr. Perkins worked with the SIU School of Medicine and the Athletic Training Education Program in the Department of Kinesiology to teach, train and prepare young people for careers in the medical field. His students now serve countless hospitals, clinics, schools and athletic training centers. Dr. Perkins is a proponent of a solid Liberal Arts training. His students became experts in Sports Medicine, but were also exposed to Music, Art, Physics, Astronomy, and a host of other disciplines. This knowledge leads to well-rounded lives. Dr. Perkins’ goal is to reward outstanding students who have proven themselves in the classroom.
