The late Mrs. Marie K. Davis

The Robert W. Davis Memorial Scholarships were established by bequest of the late Marie K. Davis in honor of her husband, Robert W. Davis.

For 29 years, Mr. Davis served as publisher of the Carbondale Free Press, which was sold to Southern Illinois Publications in 1947. He also served on the old State Teachers College Board and was named Chairman of SIU’ s first Board of Trustees when governing independence was granted in 1949. Mr. David served as President of the SIU Foundation from 1946 to 1948 and served on its executive committee from 1948 to 1951. Davis Auditorium located in Pulliam Hall has been named in his honor.
