Houdek/Tulis Law Librarian Scholarship

Frank G. Houdek’s career as a law librarian began in June 1975 at the Los Angeles County Law Library, and included positions at Lawler, Felix, and Hall and the University of Southern California, until he came to Southern Illinois University School of Law (SIU Law) in 1985 as its law library director. It ended only when, in July 2007, he left his position as law library director to become SIU Law’s associate dean for academic affairs.

Susan E. Tulis began her professional library career as an assistant documents librarian at the University of Virginia’s Alderman Library in 1978, a position she held until 1982 when she began a long stint as documents librarian at UVA’s Arthur J. Morris Law Library. She continued there until 1997, when she moved to Carbondale, Illinois, eventually joining the staff at Southern Illinois University Carbondale’s Morris Library in 2001, first as government information librarian and then, in 2002, as associate dean for information services.

In recognition of these long careers in library services and in grateful acknowledgement of the institution that played such a major role in them, Frank and Susan decided to endow a scholarship at SIU Law that will give others a chance to become part of the profession that provided them with such great personal satisfaction and so many rewarding experiences.
