Douglas E. Kelly Memorial Scholarship
The Douglas E. Kelly Memorial Scholarship was established by Janice H. Kelly in memory of her late husband Douglas. Janice met Douglas while attending SIUC. Douglas was raised and grew up in Southern Illinois and attended Southern Illinois University Carbondale to obtain his Accounting degree in 1957.
Douglas E. Kelly, CPA, was a member of the National Association for Black Accountants (NABA) St. Louis Chapter for 23 years. During his NABA tenure, he exhibited dedication and loyalty and exemplified the spirit ofNABA “Lifting As We Climb” through his continuous work on the tax workshop and other programs. Douglas volunteered during those 23 years to work with NABA Tax Workshop to prepare income tax returns for low and moderate taxpayers.
Douglas retired from the IRS as Chief Appeals Officer. Douglas enjoyed helping SIUC students. He served on the SIUC College of Business Minority Advisory Board and shared his expertise in the classroom with students.
Janice has established criteria that matches his academic career and to some extent his professional career. Douglas believed in giving back to his community so it is important that the student who receives this scholarship is active in university extracurricular and/or community activities.
