William R. Norwood Aviation Scholarship

Molly F. Norwood, William R. Norwood, and friends established this scholarship in the name of William R. Norwood. Bill began his aviation career at SIU. After graduation and a six year Air Force career, Bill joined United Airlines in 1965 as the airline’s first African American pilot. He has continued to support aviation, assist young people, and support the SIU aviation program. Upon his retirement following a distinguished career, his wife Molly began the drive to establish this scholarship to assist students in flight training.
