Norman Larson Memorial Agriculture Scholarship
The Norman Larson Memorial Agriculture Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Mr. Norman Larson. After graduating from Washburn High School in Minneapolis, MN, Norman was appointed to the United States Merchant Marine Academy at Kings Point, N.Y. and upon graduation was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree and granted a Commission in the United States Navy. Norman was veteran of WWII and the Korean conflict and served 20 years in the U.S .Navy retiring with the rank of Lt. Commander.
Following active service, he studied Mechanical Engineering at the University of Minnesota and was awarded a second undergraduate degree. He then joined the Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADM) one of the world’s preeminent agricultural processing companies and pursued his passion of safely improving grain handling efficiencies. He had a 31 year career at Archer Daniels Midland retiring as the Vice President of Operations of the ADM Grain Division. He was proud that 4 generations of Larsons have been in Agriculture, his father being a Farmer and 2 generations followed him with careers at ADM.
Norman was sincere and conscientious, an energetic contributor, effective, kind, dedicated, generous, teaching others to pursue perfection and follow through on projects and assignments. He imbued the Merchant Marine Academy motto: Acta Non Verba (Actions Not Words). This was Norman Larson. The family and friends of Norman Larson honor his memory by helping students in the College of Agricultural Sciences.
