Jennifer Camero Scholarship

The Jennifer Camero Scholarship was established to honor the life of Jennifer Camero, who was a gifted teacher and scholar, and left a lasting impact in the legal profession through her outstanding teaching, scholarship, and service.

Professor Camero joined the SIU Law faculty in 2012 and was a cherished member of the SIU Law community. She taught contracts, accounting for lawyers, commercial law, introduction to transactional skills, and torts. She was one of the founding faculty members and co-Director of the Business Boot Camp.

She brought energy, enthusiasm, and creativity to her teaching, combining high expectations, a commitment to student success, and subject matter rigor to provide a learning environment in which students thrived. She was named the Class of 2015 Outstanding Professor. Professor Camero was the first faculty member at SIU Law to develop and teach online courses, and she wrote a book about best practices in online law teaching.

Professor Camero’s students were the beneficiaries of her wisdom, which went way beyond the subject matter of the courses she taught. She revolutionized our curriculum by introducing distance education pedagogy and giving us the tools, confidence, and expertise to expand our curriculum to better serve our students by providing different learning opportunities through distance education as well as by incorporating new pedagogies in traditional courses.

Throughout her illness, Professor Camero displayed courage, fortitude, and cheerfulness and she was relentless in her commitment to her students and to SIU.
