Poshard Foundation for Abused Children

This fund is being established in honor of Glenn W. and Jo Poshard of Murphysboro, IL. Glenn, originally from Carmi, IL, is a three-degree graduate of Southern Illinois University having received his BS ‘70, MS ’75, and PhD ’84. In January 2004, Glenn Poshard became the first three-degree graduate to serve as Chairman of the Board of Trustees for Southern Illinois University. Glenn is a life-long resident and supporter of southern Illinois and Southern Illinois University. He has served the southern Illinois region and the state as a Congressman, educator, coach, and community college and university administrator. Additionally, Glenn and his wife, Jo, founded the Poshard Foundation for Abused Children, Inc. in 1999. The foundation, which works throughout southern Illinois to benefit children, has engaged various individuals and agencies to prevent child abuse in 25 downstate counties and led the charge to build a new $600,000 women’s shelter in Cairo that opened in December 2003.
