William C. Hill
The William C. Hill Zoology Scholarship was established by William C. Hill who graduated in 1942.
After graduation, Mr. Hill served in the United States Navy during World War II. After release from the Navy, he taught Biology and General Science at the Albion Community High School in Albion, IL, for a year and half.
He then was employed by the United States Food and Drug Administration in 1948. Mr. Hill held several positions in the Agency and was assigned to offices in St. Louis, San Francisco, Dallas, Kansas City, and Washington D.C. until his retirement in 1984. His last position was as Director, San Francisco District, which had jurisdiction over the states of Nevada and Hawaii, the northern two-thirds of California, the Territories of Guam and American Samoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas and all the Pacific Islands that belong to the United States.
Mr. Hill attributes the education he received at SIU as qualifying him for a very rewarding and interesting career. This scholarship is his way of “paying back” SIU for what it gave him.
