William C. Hill Zoology Scholarship

The William C. Hill Zoology Scholarship was established by William C. Hill who graduated in 1942. After graduation, Mr. Hill served in the US Navy during World War II. After release from the Navy, he taught Biology and General Science at the Albion Community High School for a year and a half. He was then employed by the US Food and Drug Administration in 1948. Mr. Hill held several positions in the Agency and was assigned to offices in St. Louis, San Francisco, Dallas, Kansas City, and Washington DC until his retirement in 1984. His last position was as Director San Francisco District, which had jurisdiction over the states of Nevada and Hawaii, about the northern two-thirds of California, the territories of Guam and American Somoa, the Commonwealth of the Northern Marianas, and all the Pacific Islands that belong to the United States. Mr. Hill attributes the education he received at SIU as qualifying him for a very rewarding and interesting career.


  • Scholarship for an outstanding junior or senior majoring in Zoology with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in all zoology courses.
  • Recipient must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.0 and demonstrate financial need as determined by the SIU Financial Aid Office.
