Ira E. Odom Scholarship for Mineralogy/Environmental Research
Ira Edgar Odom was a graduate of New Baden High School and received his bachelor of science in geology at Southern Illinois University Carbondale. He later received a master of science and a doctorate in geology at the University of Illinois. He was a professor of geology and mineralogy at Northern Illinois University from 1964 to 1981. He then became Vice President for Research and Development at American Colloid Company from 1981 to 1994, after which he served as a consultant for industrial mineral companies.
